HIV couples treatments overview

HIV discordant couples and HIV couples treatments at the C.A.R.E Clinic. Call us today for counselling and fertility options.

An HIV discordant couple is where one partner is HIV positive and the other negative. Sperm is washed and frozen. A portion of washed sperm is sent for HIV PCR testing. Once a negative result is obtained, the patients are boarded for IVF treatment. Patients are kept on ARV’s, viral loads and CD4 counts determined before proceeding with the programme. For very high viral loads in male azoospermic patients, donor sperm is offered as an alternative.

Female patients are placed on ARV treatment and once viral loads are undetectable, only then are the patients boarded for IVF/ICSI. Patients remain on the treatment throughout the pregnancy and babies are delivered by Caesarean section.

Let the C.A.R.E Clinic guide and counsel you for the safest and best results outcome.
